Camped at Pilot Knob

Here is some historic information about where we are currently camped on the BLM land at Pilot Knob.

The area in and around Pilot Knob at one time was used to train General George S. Patton’s troops. Camp Pilot Knob was established as a training ground in preparation for desert fighting during World War II. Camp Pilot Knob is located just off Highway 8, west of the Yuma, Arizona border , just inside the Eastern California border at Sidewinder Road.

We are currently camped at the base of the mountain in the surrounding desert area. The picture inserted to the right is taken from the top of Pilot Knob. The surrounding terrain consists of desert and desert and more desert.

Whew!!! What a climb.
