White Sands and Me............Bottoms Up

White Sands National Monument lies in the Tularosa Basin just west of Alamogordo. 270 plus acres of brilliant white sand that consists of dissolved gypsum carried down from the Sacramento Mountain Range by moisture. The White Sands Missile Range surrounds the park. The main highway US 70 and the park are routinely closed for testing of experimental weapons by the military. North-West of the park is the Trinity testing grounds where the first Nuclear Bomb was tested.
We are currently at the Oliver Lee State Campgrounds. We purchased a yearly pass for $225 which allows us to boon-dock free at any State Park in New Mexico for the next year. All State Parks are equipped with bathrooms and showers. Or we can hook up to their electrical sites for just $4 a day. What a deal.
