Route Map again as a refresher of the El Chepe Copper Canyon train adventure.
Leaving the 8000 foot elevation of Creel for a few days, we all loaded in MacLean's van for a 5 hour trip down into the canyon to the town of Batopilas. Elevation 1650 feet. The road down was an adventure in itself.
Most of the road is cut out of the side of the mountains.
The current profitability of silver mining has prompted the mining companies to renovate the road down to Batopilas. The operation is huge. The machinery is huge.
Waiting for the blasting to stop and the road to be cleared so we could proceed on-----So Norm climbed right up for a photo op.
They built the Satevo Mission a few miles from the town of Batopilas to encourage the town to move to the mission. The town never moved, the mission sits alone. Batopilas is a small colonial town at the bottom of the canyon
