Sault St. Marie Soo Locks Connecting Lake Huron and Lake Superior

We stepped up to the  Sault St. Marie Soo Locks Boat Tour. We were told we were in for a treat when we shared our trip through the locks with the Algoma Equinox. One of the transport  Freighters cruising the Great Lakes moving cargo.
These freighters are huge. The largest is 1004  ft long and 105 feet wide. Just barely fitting into the locks.

Very interesting the infrastructure created.
Locks and ports and canals all constructed just to facilitate the transport of cargo through the Great Lakes.
Fuel ships replenish fuel. Re-supply boats to haul out fresh supplies to the passing freighters. (note the photo on the right loading supplies)
Local ship captains familiar with the waterways take over the passing freighters helm.

This was too funny. Watching the lock attendant drag a small boat out of the locks by the rope. Apparently the engine won't start.

The Great Lakes and the canal/lock system  have an immensity that I am only beginning
 to  fully appreciate.
