What an awesome view out our front door. This is one unique State Park. No fees. Camping along the rim looking down into the meandering San Juan river.
We are up in the top left hand corner. Sitting on the rim looking down 1000 feet into the canyon. Amazing what Mother Nature provides. She takes care of our asthetic needs.
AND IN THE END, IT'S NOT THE YEARS IN YOUR LIFE THAT COUNT. IT'S THE LIFE IN YOUR YEARS

Last Few Days in Moab
Fiery Furnace in Arches. There is an awesome ranger led hike through these pillars. Next year I plan on taking the hike. They won't let anyone go in alone. Apparently people have gotten lost in there.
This is about where the Thelma and Louise famous exit over the cliff occurred. The view is awesome here. What view? Oh yes, the priority is jeep pictures.
Mountain Range just East of Moab. Norm and I took a drive up there on Thursday. We got to 9300 feet. Oxygen was in short supply up there.
Campground among the Aspin up at 9300 feet in the Mountains pictured above. No one camping today.Brrrr! even though the sun was shining, it was biting cold.

Another Day Trip Around Moab
Arches National Park. The Arches are gorgeous.
Steve following us down Shaffer 4 wheel route. It may be steep, but the views are spectacular. This little red jeep is now a seasoned 4 wheeler.
Lunch in the Arches. We are trying for a no-wind lunch spot. The wind is biting cold. But the sun is shining.

Out and About Moab
Alternative Living Space. This fellow has built his home right into the side of the mountain.
Here he is hollowing out the mountain to expand his living quarters.
Our trip on Fins and Things. Note the dinosaur formation on the side of the hill.

Steve Has Arrived, Time for 4 Wheelen
Steve Arrive on Thursday evening. Too late to hit the trails. Camp sites here are $10 with a $2 charge for any extra vehicle. The Jeep Jamboree is here this weekend. That makes it more fun. Lots of jeeps on the trails and fun to watch their maneuvers.
Friday morning we headed out. Chicken Corners here we come. This 4 wheel trail is rated moderate.
Here is another view of the 4 wheel trip to Chicken Corners. Look closely at the bottom of the picture and you can see Norm and Steve in their jeeps. Boys Toys.

We Have Arrived!! Steve Arrives on Thursday
Camped with the big boys. Out on Sand Flats Road
Trip on Fins and Things. It is hard to get a perspective of the hill.
There is a Land Rover 4x4 group here this week. This guy is the spotter, he kindly spotted for Norm as he came up the hill.
Here is a prespective of the hill Norm drove up in the above picture. Apparently the Jeep Jamboree is this weekend. Camping spots will be hard to come by.

Native American Net Fishing just Below the John Day Dam on the Columbia
This Native American arrived early this morning to check his nets. Apparently they hang the hoop net from the long poles extended from the front of the platform. I imagine he put the net in the water sometime last night.
He has the net up on the platform. You can see the size of it as he is standing in the middle of it.
Another good view of the size of the net. We counted 5 huge Salmon in his net. What an opportunity for us to have seen this process.
Here is a picture some of the fish out of the net. He has a piece of wood in his hand and is clubbing the fish over the head to kill them. We are not sure if he sells them at this time of year or uses them for his own consumption.

Out Our Front Door Series Fall 2010
We traveled a grand total of 2 hours today. That was enough for the first day. This is John Day Dam overnight free parking for us cheap RVers.
Look who we met while parked at the John Day Dam overnight parking lot. Our neighbor Dave. He lives right next door to us. The fellow driving the boat lives just down the street from us. He spied our rig and stopped by to say hay. It always amazes me that we run into people we know in these out of the way places.
Here we are again. Parked at the John Day Dam. Can't beat the view. Or the price.

The Migration has Started!!!
Although the Northern Snowbird is indigenous to cooler climates, they are often seen migrating towards the sunshine states in the late fall, early winter months. This is the first of the familiar species we have encountered this season. Have fun Paul and Gail. Our trek begins this week also. |

Dinner with Norms Kids
We usually try to get together with the kids and grand kids before our trips. Everyone is so busy it is hard to catch up. Dinner out seems to bring everyone together. We went to The Cheesecake Factory. It was very busy with a wait of almost 2 hours. We cruised the mall and Amy had her ears pierced. The grand kids are sure growing. |

Amy Wants Her Ears Pierced!!!
Waiting for the big event. Amy (our granddaughter) spontaneously decided to have her ears pierced while we cruised the Mall waiting for our dinner reservations. Dad was a little apprehensive as she is only 6 years old. She knows what she wants and by-golly, she wants to have her ears pierced. |
Here she is having her ears pierced with her new ear rings in place. She was very brave and did not even cry. She is very happy with the her new ear rings.

Visit with Norms Sister and Brother-in-law
What fun we had with Janet and Bob. We spent the afternoon and evening catching up on life. Had a yummy home made chicken pot pie for dinner and then played a little Golf on the kitchen table. Such a fun couple. |
