Following the Alaska Pipeline up "the Dalton"

A section of Pipeline just outside of Fairbanks. We are headed up "the Dalton" to view this massive project in it's entirety. The construction took place between 1974 and 1977. Costs about $8 billion.
Atigun Pass with the road and the pipeline running through the valley. About 140 miles south of Purdhoe Bay and Deadhorse. Where the Alaska Pipeline starts.
Another view of Antigun Pass in the Brooks Range. This 414 mile long Dalton Highway is in pretty good shape. But I imagine it can get pretty dicey when it is wet and rainy. Mostly hard packed dirt with intermittent pavement.
This is actually the pig they put into the pipeline to clean and remove any impediment to smooth oil travel through the pipeline. I now have a greater appreciation for the enormity of the pipeline project. This pigs retired now, as stated in the above sign.
