First night we stayed just outside of Bauichivo at a ranch in Cerocahui. About 5000 feet in elevation.
One good reason NOT to travel the Copper Canyon in January.
Yup, that's snow on the ground.
I believe it was about 14 degrees at one point on our trip.
But on the upside-----No Crowds.
The ranch we stay at in Cerocahui is called "The Paraiso del Oso" (Paradise of the Bear). Hmm, I wonder how it got it's name?
A trip down to Urique was part of the package while staying at Paraiso del Oso. Urique's population is about 1000 people, 1640 feet above sea level. The narrow dirt road down to Urique zig-zags back and forth down the side of the mountain. Single lane, dirt and very rugged. Yikes!!! No fear, Hugo said he has been driving this road since he was 14.
Urique is where we first began to learn of the Tarahumara Indians.
Never mind that it was snowing up top and rain was falling at the lower elevations.
This is not my photo.
